Our clients bought a shabby three-storey terraced house in a conservation area in Holland Park, with a conventional planning permission, which did not maximise the potential of the new kitchen space and the house’s relationship to the south facing garden. It had the potential to be a great family house but had been badly maintained for many years and old ‘modernisation’ work had caused many problems, headroom was also very low in the back addition and the top floor. So we put it in for planning again to include rebuilding a former conservatory and adding a corner of glass sliding doors. We lowered the floor level to the back addition and raised the eaves line at the back. The house was rebuilt in part, thermally upgraded where possible and generally remodelled to a high specification with large roof lights added too.
